Description
Blue Stone Bodhisattva Statue, height 56cm. A temple statue in the Central Plains or Sichuan area from the Tang to Five Dynasties, the upper body remains of a large bodhisattva statue originally used for temple hall worship. Made of blue stone with residual mineral painting and gold leaf on the surface, thick patina and natural weathering traces. Combining round and relief carving, wearing a precious crown with complex decorations, a round and compassionate face, the right hand in abhaya mudra, and smooth and elegant necklace and drapery on the chest, a typical representative of the "plump and elegant" style of Tang Buddhist statues. Tang to Five Dynasties (7th–10th centuries). Witnesses the prosperity of Buddhist art and Central Plains aesthetics in the Tang Dynasty. Residual paintings are important clues for studying ancient statue decoration techniques, a core artifact in the history of Buddhist art.
