Description
Blue Stone Auspicious Beast, height 62cm, width 40cm, depth 32cm. A tomb town auspicious beast in front of tombs or government offices in the Tang-Song period, a fine folk stone carving. Made of blue stone with natural weathering and earth infiltration, partial residual gold color. Round-carved, the auspicious beast roars with its head held high, curly mane, full muscles and powerful claws, majestic in posture, a typical representative of the "majestic, evil-exorcising and town-house" style of Tang-Song stone carvings. Tang to Song Dynasty (7th–13th centuries). Witnesses ancient funeral rituals and tomb town beliefs, an important artifact for studying Tang-Song folk stone carving craftsmanship and folk culture, more valuable for display and collection when preserved in pairs.
