Mary at age 13 worked this interesting needlework sampler in 1823. It is dominated at the bottom with a collection of buildings or townscape that at this point have not been identified. She also included a poignant verse ending with “And evenings suns but set to rise more fair”.
A note on the back, indicates that Mary Bamford Mckee was born in East Franklin, Armstrong Co, PA, Oct. 22, 1809 to James Bamford McKee and Margaret Turner. The family moved to Brown Co. OH and at age 19 Mary married Williams Wood. Silk on wool; 23 x 15.5 inches framed.
