Description
Meansville, GA, 20th/21st Century. This petite vessel features a classic mug form with an applied handle and is finished in a rich, deep green alkaline glaze. It bears an incised signature on the underside for Marie Rogers (1922–2010), a celebrated Georgia folk artist and pioneer who was the last practitioner of the Jugtown pottery tradition in Meansville. As the only female potter in a long lineage of male Jugtown potters, Rogers took up the craft to preserve her family’s legacy following the death of her husband, Horace Rogers, in 1962. The mug measures approximately 3 3/8" H x 4" W x 3" D and remains in good condition.
