Description
Backus, Albert Ernest "Beanie" (1906 - 1990) Indian River School, founder of the Highwaymen movement - Florida Hall of Fame Artist. Oil on Canvas - signed lower right. Executed in brush and palette knife. Backus’s circa-1959 brush-and-knife composition captures a Jamaican father and son in quiet balcony conversation, framed by a lush green jungle where sunlight filters through layered leaves. Echoing the example on p.154 of Tropical Lights, the work reveals Backus’s hallmark command of directional light, using it to model form, heighten intimacy, and fuse lived experience with painterly atmosphere. Canvas measures 24x30 framed to overall size of 32x38. Condition: Very Fine
