This set dates to around the 1820s, and is likely of French or perhaps Russian make. The set is made in a very elegant gilt swirl pattern, with wide gilt rims and gilt interiors on the cups. The interior of the teapot has a pierced strainer area on the inside of the spout, so it is suitable for loose leaf tea, but the design and size is such this would make a great coffee or chocolate set as well. Teapotâ€â€10 1/2 inches to top of finial, 8 1/4 inches from handle to spout. Capacity of 5 1/2 cups, or 44 fluid ounces/1.3 liters. Some loss of gilding to handle, lid rim, finial, and spout. Creamerâ€â€7 7/8 inches tall. Some loss of gilding to handle, foot rim, inside of spout. Sugar bowlâ€â€7 1/8 inches to top of finial, 5 1/2 inches from handle to handle. Some loss of gilding to finial, rim handls, and foot. Bowlâ€â€8 inches in diameter, 5 1/8 inches tall. Some gilding loss to center, interior and exterior rim. Shell dishâ€â€6 1/4 by 6 by 1 1/4 inches, LxWxH. Inkwellâ€â€2 7/8 inches tall, 4 inches from handle to front. Repair to handle. 8 saucersâ€â€5 1/8 inches in diameter. Some wear to gilding, particularly in the centers where they stack. 5 taller cupsâ€â€4 1/4 inches tall. One with handle broken and repaired, significant loss to gilding. One with chip to rim. One broken and repaired. One with small chip beside handle, some loss to gilding. 3 smaller cupsâ€â€3 7/8 inches tall. One with some wear to gilding in bottom interior. One with flake to foot. One with three flakes to foot. Please read the list of pieces carefully, as condition information piece by piece is included. Of the pieces, the teapot, creamer, sugar, and waste bowl are all in great, usable condition. Of the cups, seven are in usable condition, but one does have a repair to the basin portion. The shell dish and inkwell are both usable, though the handle of the inkwell has a repair. There are no makers marks, impressions or stamps on the undersides of the items.
