Description
mid 19th century, 278 x 203 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
This finely woven Tekke main carpet displays ten horizontal rows of four primary guls each and comparatively small kurbaghe motifs as secondary designs. The border layout suggests that the carpet was woven around the mid 19th century. Purchased by the collector at Gripekoven, Munich, in 1979.
Condition
Several repairs of diverging colour in the area of the left-hand border, including a larger one in the upper left corner. Cut sides, replaced selvedges. Signs of age and wear in the kilim finishes.
