mid 19th century, 122 x 47 cm, South West Anatolia

A very rare double bag from Milas with pile-woven faces and a similarly pile-woven connecting panel. The outstanding quality seen in every respect suggests that this heybe was a showpiece rather than an item for everyday use. This is the only explanation for its good condition.
