Description
New England, early 19th century
Worked in silk threads on a coarse linen ground, composed of an elaborate flower border of lilies-of-the-valley, morning glories, tulips, and roses, centering alphanumeric lines above a pious verse within a pictorial landscape ground of grapevines, a hilly meadow, and butterflies.
Sight 24 1/2 x 20 1/4 inches.
Condition
significant wear and losses to the linen ground, with areas of oxidation, staining, and loss; the threads which would have indicated the maker's name have been lost entirely.
