Description
Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, 20th century. Carved wooden prestige wand or chiefly staff, the elongated form with a dark patinated surface and finely incised geometric ornament. The shaft is divided into a series of sculptural sections, including tapering finial elements, raised collars, and stylized carved motifs suggestive of authority and ceremonial display. Objects of this type were associated with chiefly status, rank, and public ritual use, often carried as emblems of leadership or social distinction.
