Description
11 n tall A pair of handmade folk art dolls representing a male and female figure in traditional regional costume, attributed to the Lebanese maker Elmassian. The dolls are constructed with needle-sculpted and painted faces, textile bodies, and internal wire armatures. The male figure is depicted in a tan fabric turban, a multi-layered outfit featuring a striped tunic and a textured, burlap-like outer robe, and cream-colored pointed slippers or babouches. The female figure features an elaborate headdress composed of orange, yellow, and purple yarn decorated with numerous small metal discs mimicking coins. She is dressed in a bright blue tunic, a yellow skirt with a sheer floral-embroidered overlay, and a black knit shawl with red or orange decorative stitching. Her hands feature painted black patterns representing traditional henna designs. Both figures are posed with raised hands and are mounted on simple circular wire supports.
