Description
Smoking Tomahawk Pipe, Brass Tacks. This striking piece is a contemporary or vintage replica of a Native American-style pipe tomahawk, an iconic hybrid weapon and ceremonial object popular during the fur trade era. The head appears to be cast iron or steel with a noticeable patina and a hammer/pipe bowl at the poll, featuring a stylized cut-out heart on the blade. The wooden haft has been stained a deep brown and decorated with numerous brass upholstery tacks in a geometric pattern near the head and further down the handle. The wood at the base shows an attractive checkered carving pattern, indicating a decorative, perhaps tourist or collector, nature. The condition is good, showing minor surface wear, tarnish to the metal head and brass tacks, and a clean separation/crack in the wood on the poll, visible in the second image. The bottom of the haft has a small, exposed wooden dowel tip. Estimated measurements, based on the provided user context, are: H 25", W 8", D 1.5". From the Native American display in Donley's Wild West Town.
