Description
SANDOZ, Maurice. Le Labyrinthe. Illustrated by Salvador Dal?. Lausanne: Imprimerie La Concorde, November 1949. First edition. 4to, original illustrated wrappers with surrealist composition by Dal? depicting anthropomorphic cherries, keys and dreamlike architectures. This collaboration between Swiss writer Sandoz and the Catalan master represents one of the heights of post-war surrealist illustration. Dal?'s plates, with their characteristic dreamlike language of soft watches, elongated figures and metaphysical landscapes, accompany Sandoz's fantastic text in a visual dialogue of rare intensity. Copy in good general condition with wear to the corners of the cover, small loss to the upper right corner, scattered foxing. Original wrappers preserved ? always preferable to subsequently bound copies.
Condition
Cover with wear to corners, particularly upper right corner with small loss; light foxing visible on the colophon page; spine presumably intact; interior presumably clean. Original wrappers preserved, not rebound.
