Description
Luigi Crociato, The Divine Tragedy. Trieste, Vischel Printing for Treves-Zanichelli Library, 1926. First edition of this poetry collection of mystical and religious inspiration, with ecclesiastical imprimatur of October 19, 1926. Copy in original publisher's wrappers adorned with an evocative Symbolist woodcut signed R. Br?han, depicting a winged figure and a kneeling male nude ? iconography typical of the Art Nouveau-Symbolist taste still alive in Trieste of the 1920s. The work is dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist, 'the Eagle of the Gospel'. Good condition with scattered foxing and normal yellowing of paper; cover well preserved. Interesting document of Triestine poetry production of the early twentieth century, in a period when the Giulian city experienced a flourishing literary season. Rare on the antiquarian market.
Condition
Original wrappers with woodcut cover well preserved, slight signs of use on edges and corners, scattered foxing on internal pages visible in photos, spine slightly weakened but intact, pages uniformly yellowed as typical of paper of the period, pencil number '6' on front board (probable bookseller's note).
