(1817 - 1888) Confederate major general who led with distinction at Cumberland Gap, later captured at Vicksburg, exchanged, and again led his forces from Missionary Ridge to Bentonville. War-date manuscript D.S., 1p. 4to., [Shenandoah Valley], Aug. 30, 1861, a circular issued by Brig. Gen. William R. Loring, authorizing selected officers to return to their homes to collect clothing and other supplied for their regiments. He signs ‘C. L. Stevenson’ at the conclusion as Loring’s adjutant general. Shows minor brushing to the signature, with expected folds, otherwise in very good to fine condition overall.
