Description
(1838-1898) Union brigadier general who fought with distinction at Missionary Ridge, Kennesaw Mountain and Atlanta, and was severely wounded at Shiloh and the Battle of Griswoldville. An interesting war-date partly-printed D.S. ‘Chas C Walcutt’, 1p. 4to., Scotsboro, AL, Dec. 31, 1863, a discharge certificate for Pvt. William Greaves of Walcutt’s 46th Ohio Infantry Regiment, due to his reenlistment in the Veteran’s Volunteer Corps. Walcutt signs in black ink at bottom right, adding his contemporary rank. At the top of the certificate, around the legend ‘To all whom it may concern’, an unidentified hand has added the engagements in which Pvt. Greaves fought: ‘Shiloh Siege of Corinth Siege of Vicksburg Jackson Chattanooga’. Shows folds overall, faintly toned at the edges and with a small tear to the right edge, otherwise in very good overall condition.
