Description
(1790 - 1862) Confederate major general who turned over his Federal forces to Ben McCulloch at the start of the war, and was later given command of the District of Louisiana. Rare war-date partly-printed D.S., 1p. oblong 4to., [n.p.], May 14, 1862, his ‘Officers’ Pay Account’ for the month of April. He signs ‘D E Twiggs’ at the conclusion in black ink, confirming that he has received his pay, and adding his rank ‘Mjr Genl’. The signature is somewhat shaky due to Twiggs’ infirmity shortly before his death, shows expected folds and some ink transfer, otherwise in very good overall condition.
