Description
(1840-1864) Confederate colonel who led the 12th Georgia Infantry with distinction at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, recommended for promotion to brigadier general by Stonewall Jackson on his deathbed, but was mortally wounded by a shell fragment at Bethesda Church. Rare signature in black ink on a 3.25 x 1.25 in. slip of paper cut from the conclusion of a letter. Mounted on a larger card, shows a vertical fold and some ink show-through, otherwise in very good overall condition.
