Description
(1833-1903) Union major general who saw action at First Bull Run, Williamsburg, and Antietam, military commander of Texas during the Garza Revolution. Good association A.L.S., 2pp. 4to., [Washington, D.C.], [n.d.], 1853, to Connecticut governor Thomas H. Seymour. Wheaton attempts to arrange a meeting with Seymour while the latter is in Washington, adding ‘...I have had a short but satisfactory interview with President [Franklin Pierce]…’ He signs in black ink at the conclusion, adding his contemporary title ‘Mex[ican] Boundary Officer]’, as he was at that time employed by the Mexican-American Boundary Commission within the State Department. Shows original folds, with a small loss at the top corner of the integral cover where unsealed, otherwise in very good to fine overall condition.
