Description
(1816 - 1864) Confederate major general who commanded a brigade at Pensacola. Walker, a much admired leader, was killed in action before Atlanta. Rare, war-date A.E.S. on a partly-printed discharge certificate, 1p. 4to., [Camp Walker, GA, Jan. 28, 1862], for a Pvt. J. P. McGee of the 8th Georgia Regiment, by reason of disability. Walker executes his endorsement in black ink on the verso, in full: ‘Head Quarters Camp Walker Jan 30th 1862 Resply forwarded & approved W. H. T. Walker Brig. Genl.’ Shows expected folds, mildly toned at the edges, slightly ragged at the bottom edge from Walker’s endorsement, and with an ink stain to his surname where he executes it in ‘Camp Walker’, otherwise in very good overall condition.
