Description: A handsome American Late Classical mahogany dressing bureau, circa 1830-1845. The shaped backsplash has bold scrolled ends, a central fan of figured mahogany veneer, and a turned gallery rail with pointed finials. Two shallow glove drawers stand above a broad pull-out dressing or writing slide. The lower case contains three graduated drawers with bookmatched figured mahogany fronts, flanked by paneled pilasters continuing into block-form scroll feet. Turned wood pulls complete the restrained design.

Retains an old polished surface with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, darkening, and uneven sheen. The top has visible surface marks and scratches. Veneered surfaces exhibit minor shrinkage, small edge losses, and lifting. The pull-out slide is presently unlined and has staining and wear. Upper drawers have later paper liners. Drawer alignment is slightly uneven, and the backboards exhibit old patches and surface wear. Wood pulls appear period.
