Description: An English George III longcase clock with an arched brass dial signed Thompson, Chester on the circular boss within the arch. The apparently eight-day, two-train movement has a Roman-numeral chapter ring with Arabic five-minute numerals, subsidiary seconds, calendar aperture, pierced hands, and cast foliate spandrels. The oak case is enriched with mahogany crossbanding and stringing and has a scroll pediment, turned finial, freestanding hood columns, shaped trunk door, and paneled plinth base.

Condition
Retains an old surface with scratches, abrasions, finish wear, color variation, shrinkage separations, and scattered old repairs. Hood, scroll pediment, columns, moldings, and projecting edges exhibit small losses, separations, and wear. Dial is tarnished with scratches, oxidation, residue, and losses to the surface and silvering. Pendulum is shown as shown. Movement, strike, calendar, timekeeping accuracy, and compatibility of the case, dial, and movement have not been independently examined or guaranteed.
