Description
Antique Hill's Centennial Desk Stamp
Manufactured by the B.B. Hill Manufacturing Company of Springfield, Massachusetts, this late 19th-century cast iron Model A "Hill's Centennial Dater" represents a classic piece of Victorian-era industrial office equipment. Originally patented during the 1876 Centennial era with patent markings including Nov. 18, 1879 stamped into the top knob, this heavy-duty press features a spring-loaded plunger, internal brass date wheels, and an integrated side-gearing mechanism designed to advance the blue cloth ink ribbon with every depression. The brass dating wheels under the frame display months January through December, days 1–31, and updated mid-century service years spanning 1950 through 1961. Physical condition exhibits moderate paint loss across the original black finish, surface oxidation to the exposed side linkages and spring, expected tarnish to the nickel-plated knob and brass wheels, and light ink staining; however, the mechanical plunger spring and ribbon advance mechanism remain intact. H 6", W 3.25", D 8". Please see photos for condition.
