Indian dhal shield, Gujarat, 19th century. Circular convex copper alloy shield with finely pierced openwork decoration, chased floral and geometric designs, four domed bosses, and a textured grip handle to the reverse. The design is consistent with highly decorated North Indian and Gujarat type dhal shields made for ceremonial, display, or elite use rather than plain battlefield use.
