A lovely Syro-Hittite votive figure of Astarte, c. 1500 – 1000 BC, with bird-like features and large round eyes with central depression, the elaborate headdress with two pierced holes in each of the three ‘lobes’. The figure wears a composite collar, the body stylized with short arms angled outward and legs together. A girdle is indicated by lines and crossing lines over the front of the abdomen, perhaps indicating tattoos, body paint of some kind of garment, the navel deeply impressed and two addition impressions on the backside of the rump. H: 5 ¼ in (13.3 cm). Earthen deposits throughout. Custom metal stand. Ex NYC private collection.
