Lot 0227
Boxwood carving of a monk with a wooden stand from the 19th century. The monk is depicted walking with a bag slung over his shoulder. His robes are open at the chest. He has elongated earlobes and is smiling. The stand has four feet and both the monk and the stand are carved to fit a peg between them.

Dimensions are 1 7/8 inches wide by 4 1/8 inches high. The stand is 7/8 of an inch. All measurements are approximate.

Provenance: From a Boston estate. Collected in Hong Kong in the 1950's and 1960's.

Condition

The top of the bag and the monk's left foot are chipped.
