A silver rectangular twin handled tray by James Dixon & Sons Ltd, Sheffield 1931, with a raised gadrooned rim and handles, engraved To Professor Robert E. Kelly, C.B., F.R.C.S./ As A Slight Token Of Gratitude/ For Recuing Me From Death Unto Life/ D. Carlyle Sutton/ Chester, 63.5cm (25in) long, 2900g (93.25 oz) Professor Sir Robert Ernest Kelly (1879-1944): KB 1939; CB 1916; M and FRCS 1905; BSc Victoria University 1899; Liverpool 1901; MD 1905. During the First World War Kelly served as consulting surgeon to the British Forces at Salonika, with the temporary rank of colonel, AMS. He had supervision of 21,000 beds and was active in organizing rehabilitation centres. He was created CB for his services in 1916 and afterwards served on the Army Council Medical Advisory Board.
