Circa 1860s Uncommon Early Aviation Albumen Photograph on Paper Board Mount; Depiction of a crowd, multitude surrounding early hot air/observation balloon. Through the trees you can see the giant hot air balloon. There is a large concentration of people surrounding the balloon and they appear to be pressed in quite close to it. Outside the crowd (and in the foreground of this image) you can see horse drawn merchant wagons. A broadside hangs on a tree next to the lamp post in bottom right. A few words appear to read: "Grand Dress Ball" and "Franklin Base Ball"....perhaps a bit of information which could be helpful in determining the location. Interesting view that would benefit from further research. Approximate mount size is 14" x 11". Condition: soiling, staining, foxing spots. damage to mount including tears with cellophane tape repairs to edges on back.
