The superbly detailed map of the course of the Amazon from its headwaters in the Andes to its mouth on the Atlantic, from the atlas of Prevost d'Exiles' Histoire Generale des Voyages. Based on the map attached to the report on Condamine's voyage of exploration in South America, the map encompasses parts of modern-day Ecuador, Colombia (including Bogota), the Guianas, and Brazil.
Jacques-Nicolas Bellin(1703-1772) was a French cartographer, hydrographer and geographer. Born in Paris, Bellin was a member of the French intellectual group, the philosophes, a member of the Academie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London. His career spanned over five decades in which he produced a large number of maps for the Dépot des Cartes et Plans de la Marine.
