The best early Hudson Valley dough box in original dry red paint, with cut keyhole handles on sides, and original lid with beaded cleats with finger notches to assist in lifting lid - rose head nail construction, probably mid 18th century. Hairline under one handle, minor use wear and soiling, overall very good condition. 40"L x 12"H x 13.5"D. Provenance: From the locally historic Abraham E. VanWagner homestead, being in the same Dutchess County NY family for 7 generations including the Calvin G. Smith family and descendants.
