He worked for several years in Munich and was then appointed to the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe (as successor to Ludwig the Coudres ) and took over the newly established natural and the antique class. In 1892 he retired from the teaching service for reasons of age.Among his students were u. a. Christian Wilhelm Allers , Emil Schill , Ernst Schurth and Paul Schultze-Naumburg .The Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe has works by Poeckh (Inv.No .: 1690, 1691 and 2018)."
