Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE and 500 CE. Twenty terracotta spindle whorls decorated with incised stylized geometric and zoomorphic motifs. The artwork delineated on the spindle whorls elevates these utilitarian objects to art. Strung and knotted with cord. Set on a white linen covered board. Size: 13.5" L (34.3 cm); largest beads ~ 1" in diameter (2.5 cm)
