Lot 5448
"The Gate of Metwalis, or Bab Zuweyleh" with text at bottom, duotone lithograph with hand finishing on paper, in mat, under acetate, unframed, 24" x 17" sheet. Fine condition.
David Roberts' most famous work, "Views in the Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, & Nubia", was published by E. G. Moon in London between 1843 and 1849. This work is known for its extremely detailed dutone lithographed plates which depict various scenes of the Holy Land and the Middle East. George Croly wrote the wonderfully descriptive text, and Louis Haghe turned Roberts' drawings into lithographs. The plates are original duotone lithographs from the folio edition.
