East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 1644 to 1912 CE, probably later in the period. A large piece of gorgeous blue lapis lazuli carved into the form of a seated bull. The lapis is gorgeous, with blue hues ranging from midnight to almost lavender; gold-colored pyrite flecks swirl over the surface, especially across the broad back, and bands of pale grey and white calcite provide further color.
