Vintage Photo-gravure Engraving of Theodore Roosevelt; an engraving of the T. Roosevelt's official White House portrait by John Singer Sargent competed in 1903. This print appeared in the collection The White House Gallery of Official Portraits of the Presidents, 1907. The print shows a facsimile signature of the President below and the signature of the artist (from the original portrait) at the upper right. The piece is in fair condition as the boarder of the backing shows much chipping and staining. The image is in good condition showing a small water stain below the President's watch chain and a small chipped spot on the upper left. The image size is 8" W x 12 1/2" H; the overall size is 15" W x 19" H. An interesting story; legend has it that Roosevelt and Sargent could not agree on Roosevelt's pose for the portrait. During their argument, Roosevelt angrily struck his hand down on the banister, and Sargent stopped him immediately.
