Description
A standing male representing a flute player. This is part of the extensive ensemble of court (i.e. royal) art generated for elites in the Grasslands area of Cameroon. This specific figure was made by the Bamileke, and has been extensively patinated with oil and other substances reflecting its original function in the veneration of ancestors and the enrichment of the Fon, the main chief of individual kingdoms. It represents a specific ancestor. Provenance: Gaetan Schoonbroodt. H=30cm
