The Estate of a Prominent Baltimore Family Provenance states from the service of Commodore Richard Dale (1756-1826). One of the original six United States Navy Commodores, appointed by George Washington. Dale had a long and distinguished naval career, which included serving as First Lieutenant on U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard under John Paul Jones and later serving in the Barbary Wars. He then retired to civvilian life making a fortune in the China Trade and brokering insurance.
