A LARGE CHRISTOFLE SILVER PLATED FIGURAL CENTERPIECE, CIRCA 1873, cast with four addorsed classical maidens holding aloft a circular tapering bowl centering engraved ribbon-tied bellflower garlands beneath a frieze of Vitruvian scroll and a rope twist rim, on a quatre foil base with ribbon entwined blossoming and fruiting branches flanking an oval cartouche enclosing a ribbon sash raised on scrolled feet, the base rim engraved Christofle, underside numbered. NOTE: Christofle originally designed the figural stem as "3femmes ˆ 4 Vasques" circa 1855. A variety of forms were made of the figural stem as well as reproduced by other companies in America and Great Britain.
