Description
Louis XIII (1601-1643) French Monarch. The eldest son of King Henry IV and Marie de Médicis, Louis succeeded to the throne upon the assassination of his father in May 1610. Louis XIII, taciturn and suspicious, relied heavily on his chief ministers, first Charles d'Albert, duc de Luynes and then Cardinal Richelieu, to govern the Kingdom of France. They systematically destroyed the castles of defiant lords, and denounced the use of private violence..The reign of Louis "the Just" was also marked by the struggles against the Huguenots and Habsburg Spain. 8 ½” x 14 ½” document, in French, signed, August 22, 1615.
