9th C. Medieval European Iron Spear Iron Crossbow Bolts
Item Details
Description
Western/Central Europe, probably England, France, or Germany, Medieval Period, ca. 12th to 15th century CE. A fine trio of three iron weapons. The first is a spear head with a prominent midrib down the center of the blade. The narrow blade has an integral tubular socketing shaft for mounting this spear head on a pole. The two arrow bolts are for a crossbow, and both are socketed with a diamond shaped head on the top that tapers to a pointed tip. Crossbows were incredibly advantageous weapons when pitted against comparatively primitive bows and arrows as they surpassed the accuracy, firing rate, and lethality of even the most well-constructed bow. All three are covered with a rich russet brown patina. Size (spear): 8" L x .625" W (20.3 cm x 1.6 cm); (bolt): 2.625" L x .375" W (6.7 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
