Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Four Corners region, New Mexico, Chaco Canyon area, Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan, ca. 900 to 1030 CE. A beautiful pottery pitcher of a globular form with a tapered shoulder, a cylindrical neck, and a strap handle joining neck to shoulder. The exterior is painted black-on-white with intricate and abstract geometric motifs. Pottery played an important role in Anasazi culture and included both utilitarian and decorative pieces that could be traded with neighboring communities for food or other goods. Anasazi pottery was made by hand coiling clay, then smoothing the surface and painting with designs before firing. This gorgeous pitcher is a lovely example that was created via this technique! Size: 6.05" Diameter x 6.5" H (15.4 cm x 16.5 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.
