NEW YORK — The unmistakable hipness of mid-century Modern design is the central element in Jasper52‘s upcoming Midcentury Modern Decorative Art and Design, beginning at 8 pm Eastern time on Tuesday, February 27, exclusively at LiveAuctioneers.

First up is a 1991 extendable dining table in cherry and wenge woods by Spanish designer Oscar Tosquets Blanca (b. 1941-) for Driade Aleph. His aim was to create a table that could be easily extended with storable extension panels, with legs that don’t get in the way of the people sitting, and with a curvature that facilitates communication — all of which he perfectly nailed in this beautiful and ingenious design. The table is estimated at $9,000-$11,000.

Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) wanted a new bookshelf for his Rio Marin home in Venice, Italy. His design was the legendary Model 795 bookcase as manufactured by Bernini. The design looks as fresh as it did in 1935, and it retains the charm and elegance of artisan furniture by a master of Italian architecture. The bookcase carries an estimate of $16,000-$19,000.

Ron Arad (b. 1951-) is a British-Israeli designer who debuted his Big Easy collection with a steel chair in 1988 and has since been translated into other forms. The Soft Big Easy chair takes that core design to its logical and most comfortable conclusion. A true eye catcher, the Soft Big Easy chair went into production by Moroso in 1991; this particular piece is from 1999. It has an internal steel frame, injected flame retardant foam, and a bright red upholstery. It is estimated at $3,500-$4,000.
