Saturday, March 17th at 11:00 am The Saturday sale will feature decorative arts, furniture and fine art from the estate of Anne Markley Spivak. Anne Spivak was a prominent collector and an avid supporter of the arts, especially in Detroit. She served for decades as an auxiliary board member at the Detroit Institute of Arts and was an active member of many cultural and community organizations. Her holdings ranged from heirloom objects and furniture inherited from her family, including Fisher Body Founder Fred and Bertha Fisher, to curated antiquities, exceptional jade carvings and important silver pieces. The sale begins with two impressive pieces of finely carved jade, one depicting Guanyin and the other a phoenix. Further highlights of the auction include a range of items from famed Danish silversmith, Georg Jensen, as well as Johan Rohde, one of his most prominent collaborators who helped establish the firm?s leadership in the field of 20th century silver. Serious collectors will be interested in the ?Cosmos? tea and coffee set (lot 1014) and the ?Harlequin? cocktail shaker and tray (lot 1026). Highlights also include a monumental and important Dominick and Haff centerpiece decorated with a motif of griffins (lot 1013) from the Fisher estate. Also included in the sale is a Louis XV/XVI transitional ormolu-mounted mixed wood commode (lot 1056) and two French bronze mounted and crystal chandeliers from Anna Thomson Dodge?s estate (lots 1052 and 1053). Anne Spivak?s discerning eye and passion can be seen in the over 100 lots dispersed throughout the sale, including English and French furniture and decorative arts, porcelain, crystal, and silver.
