American Art

Our season begins with our annual American Art auction, including a robust selection of paintings, watercolors and drawings by premier artists of the late-nineteenth through the mid-twentieth centuries. Among top lots are watercolors by Childe Hassam, including signature Impressionist scenes from Celia Thaxter's summer house at Appledore and the Isle of Shoals; a charming oil by Anna Mary Robertson Moses, also known as Grandma Moses, completed at 101 years of age; an important male figurative drawing by Marsden Hartley; and luminous seascapes by Alfred T. Bricher. The auction encompasses the visions of Hudson River School, Impressionism, Regionalism, Social Realism and early Modernism with further works by Charles Burchfield, John Marin, Reginald Marsh, Severin Roesen and Joseph Stella.
