August Splendor 2022 - Day 2

On Day 2 of our three-day August Splendor auction, we present paintings by Henry Moret, Alfred Sisley, Montague Dawson, David Johnson, Edouard Cortes, Jasper Cropsey, Edmund Tarbell, Percy Sanborn, and many others. This day includes a late 15th Century Florentine relief stucco sculpture depicting the Madonna and Child and a 15th Century Flemish or German carved wooden bust depicting Mary Magdelene. Leading the folk art category is an American Federal period architectural gilt eagle, and a prancing horse weathervane by Jewell. A group of important early American furniture will be offered, such as a Connecticut River Chippendale period cherry secretary, New Hampshire Chippendale Moses Hazen School maple bonnet top chest, and Jonas Finch (Pepperell, MA) William & Mary tall case clock. There are144 lots of Chinese artifacts, led by a Tang Dynasty sancai glazed tomb guardian figure, a pair of Western Jin Dynasty qilin guardian figures, and a Qing Dynasty Gu form carved jade vase. Rounding out the day will be marine items, tea caddies, early textiles, antiquities, early barometers and oriental carpets.
