Ranging in time period, function, and technique this collection presents eight dragon robes all dating to the 19th century; including an exemplary blue-ground court robe. Additional vestments appearing in this session include an array of silk and embroidered 19th century lady?s robes. Also featured are a plethora of Chinese ranking badges ranging in insignia from a military official to a civil officer. Decorative textiles offered in this session include tapestries, table cloths, and rugs; notably a yellow-ground rug decorated with scholar?s items dating to the 18th/19th century. Techniques employed throughout these fibrous works of art include the forbidden stitch, goldwork, and metal-wrapped thread.
