Session 4 - Chinese Snuff Bottles

The final day of Oakridge Auction Gallery?s Summer Chinese Art and Antiques sale presents our highly anticipated celebration of the snuff bottle, a marvel of technical innovation. In this session, we present a variety of snuff bottle materials from fine carved white jades to interesting Peking glass bottles with detailed overlays. These items are sourced from celebrated collectors from across the United States. Many of our examples come from famed historic periods, such as the Qianlong, Daoguang, and Jiaqing. One highlight of these is a Qianlong enamel snuff dish created using Western style painting techniques, a notable feature of the period. Many famous artists also appear in this sale, such as the delicate inside painting of Ma Shaoxuan and the intricate porcelain techniques of Wang Bingrong. In addition to snuff bottles, we present an appealing variety of snuff dishes from jade and agate to lacquer alongside an array of well-known snuff bottle collector?s books.
