Session 3 - Chinese Snuff Bottles

This Winter Chinese Art and Antiques sale concludes with a captivating variety of snuff bottles totalling to 289 lots, our largest collection to date. These miniature delights of the Qing dynasty have encaptured collectors for almost a century, both as functional items and as sublime household decorations. Many of the artworks presented have been meticulously collected by erudite connoisseurs from well-known auction houses like Christie?s, Sotheby?s, Bonhams, and other well-known private dealers. Our third day sale proudly offers hundreds of unique pieces, well-suited to the discerning tastes of any collector. There are numerous examples of the most popular designs in the current market, including 18th century white jades, such as lot 601, and 19th century blue and copper-red-underglazed bottles of every shape, including one illustrating Nezha?s defeat of the Dragon King in lot 713. Finally, our sale contains numerous examples of inside-painted bottles, a remarkable style that marked the end of the Qing dynasty and has continued in numerous artistic traditions. Many traditional themes are depicted by the hands of well-known masters, including Ma Shaoxuan, Bi Rongjiu, and Zhou Leyuan.
