DuMouchelles opens January 2026 with a session led by handwoven rugs, supported by fine jewelry, decorative arts, furniture, and Detroit architectural material. The rug offering is the core of the day, with over 80 lots ranging from room-size carpets to long runners and smaller formats. Many originate from the estate of Ali Amiri, proprietor of the Persian House of Imports in Ann Arbor, and include Persian Sarouk, Tabriz, Hamadan, Kashan, Ispahan, Kazak, Shirvan, Oushak, Indo-Persian, Turkish, and Chinese examples spanning the late 19th through mid-20th centuries. Sizes extend to large-scale carpets suitable for formal interiors, with additional runners and prayer rugs offering strong variety and depth. Jewelry highlights include two emerald-and-diamond rings, led by a 10.12-carat pear-shape Brazilian emerald set in 14K white gold and surrounded by 45 round brilliant diamonds. Additional accessories include a mid-century diamond pendant from a Bloomfield Hills private collector and a Breitling Emergency Mission wristwatch in its original case. Decorative arts are anchored by a pair of Venetian bronze floor-standing torchères attributed to Michelangelo Guggenheim, after a design by Giuseppe Michieli, richly cast with ram’s masks, putti, blackamoor figures, and mythological motifs. Their provenance includes French & Company, New York, the Booth Family of Bloomfield Hills, and a 1956 gift to the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Russian silver adds further interest with a guilloché enamel box mounted with a cabochon ruby and a silver egg-form container on stand. Furniture and architectural material round out the session, including carved walnut cabinetry, clocks, Chippendale-style pieces by Baker, Henredon, and Charak, and Detroit architectural elements from Michigan Central Station, J.L. Hudson’s, the Fisher Mansion, and the Book-Cadillac Hotel.
