Townsend Prehistoric Artifact Auction

We are pleased to present another exclusive offering from the fabulous Earl Townsend Collection. We think you will agree that the quality and variety of this artifact assemblage is remarkable. Over nearly five decades, Earl Townsend amassed a collection of prehistoric artifacts unrivaled in the depth of its quality and provenance. This offering includes over sixty well documented Birdstones. Birdstones of note include the incredible nine inch Millersburg Birdstone, Dave Warner's Porphyry Popeyed Birdstone and the finest Birdstone from Wilbur Cunningham's collection. Two fine Birdstones, well pictured over 100 years ago in Moorehead's books, will also be sold - one being "a famous Birdstone with the longest popeyes ever seen". The Dr. Bunch Cache of North Blades will be sold individually, giving a variety of collectors an opportunity to acquire a group of them. Several significant large flint blades were held back for this auction. In addition to some impressive Spiro Mound Blades, a remakable Polished Flint Mace from the Payne and Pilquist Collections will be offered. The Townsend Collection is an assemblage of artifacts with excellent provenance and storied histories - skillfully assembled by a man with an extraordinary eye for art.
